Card Draws
A Micro-Inclusion That Turns Accountability Into Belonging
Card Draws (or “Surprise Cards” on the sports field) is a micro-inclusion framework designed by educators and coaches to handle minor infractions—like tardiness or forgotten equipment—without damaging student dignity.
Instead of a traditional penalty, students are given a choice: accept a standard consequence or draw from a 5-card deck containing four lighthearted, humorous challenges (like wearing an accordion or a team-wide jog) and one “Get Out of Jail Free” card. By introducing choice, playfulness, and group involvement, it transforms tense disciplinary moments into shared community-building experiences.
